Juicy

  • Dec. 18th, 2009 at 11:51 PM
I picked up a bottle of cranberry juice, as I am wont to do, when out on Wednesday. Tonight I opened it and notice it spelled peculiar. Suddenly started worrying it'd gone bad. Not wanting to pour a new bottle down the drain I tried a sip and it tasted funny too, so I glanced at the bottle. That's when I realized I hadn't picked up cranberry juice after all. I picked up a bottle of cherry juice.

I've never heard of juice made from actual cherries, so I was surprised.

Looks like the Amazon order placed yesterday has shipped tonight. Have that to look forward to next week. Hoping it arrives by Tuesday, but I suppose it might get here Monday. That'd be great.

Actually, I'll probably get my next pension deposit Tuesday, early. It's always on the last business day of the month, except for January, when I get it before Christmas (no doubt because government offices are closed from the 24th to the 31st). I'll have to be careful since it'll have to last an extra week and a half until the end of January. Baring any sudden riches I main win or inherit.

Since it's Christmas time, here's Lou Ferrigno fighting The Great Bear in 1983's Hercules. Cause nothing says Christmas like oiled up muscle men wrestling fake bears.

Bad Teeth, Bad

  • Dec. 17th, 2009 at 3:03 PM
Not sure if it's the dry cold weather or not, but my jaw has been aching more than usual for a week now. I desperately need to go to the dentist to fix my 8 years worth of cavities and scarring, but still can't muster up the nerve to go. Just so terrified I'll have a panic attack while in the chair, teeth being drilled. As a result, I continue to suffer through constant tooth pain and gross looking teeth.

Maybe I need to take up smoking pot.

Ah ha! Nice! Dad called me a couple of times this afternoon. The second time he asked me to look up a few movies for him on Amazon.ca and to order a couple of them. He said I could order 1 movie for myself, but I got him to let me order a few things because I have a $50 bill from my grandmother and will pay him back next time I see him.
The IT Crowd: Season/Series 1 (DVD set)
The IT Crowd: Season/Series 2 (DVD set)
Betty Page Confidential (book)
Almost ordered Icons of Horror: Hammer Films, but figured it can wait since I've been wanting to get the IT Crowd sets for some time. Will have to order The IT Crowd Season/Series 3 next time (or ask Dean to look for it for me when she goes shopping in Ottawa at the end of the month).

New Iron Man 2 trailer is kick-ass! - Yes it does. Yes it does indeed.

'Supernatural' Spoilers - Mostly minor plot rundowns of upcoming episodes. I still think that after dealing with the Apocalypse this season, that next year they should scale the show back to basics. Focus back on Sam and Dean traveling and fighting monsters again, pulling away from the huge cosmic arcs.

For fun, Bar Refaeli:

Salutes

"Snow-capped" Toblerone? Awesome.

The more crowded Walmart gets during the holidays, the more you notice some people have really bad B.O.

Surprisingly long afternoon, as Dad and I went to Walmart (where I only bought groceries), then to my grandmother's for some time, followed by driving across town to Zellers. I got 3 cheap DVDs there, but I didn't pay for them. Dad went to the checkout first and I was walking off to look at something when he suddenly turned and walked back to me taking my 3 movies, saying he'd add them to his. No idea why he did that. Although I think he has a Zellers card, so maybe that was the reason.

I got:
The Cat's Meow (2001; $5)
Face/Off (1997; $7 2-disc special edition)
Barry Lyndon (1975; $7)
At least 3 times previously I've almost bought Barry Lyndon (the lone copy I've seen there), only to put it back. Today I finally decided to just get it, and be done with it.

Have to admit, this gal's total babeness aside, I'm most glad to see she's doing the Vulcan salute properly.

It's a pet peeve of mine when people do it without extending the thumb (and I'm only a moderate Star Trek fan). Oddly enough, watching The Terminal yesterday, Zoe Saldana had a supporting role in the film as a Trekkie. She does the salute at one point, improperly, with the thumb in. Somewhat amused me that she would play Uhura in the new Star Trek movie 5 years later, and that I'd coincidentally watch both films on the same afternoon.

What Did They Say?

That was disappointing. This afternoon I watched my $30 copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, only to discover that unlike the previous 5 films, this DVD has neither English subtitles nor closed captioning for the hearing impaired. Making things worse, the dialog audio level is incredibly low, so I struggled to make out the dialog even with the TV turned up to full volume. I figure I only understood about half of what was said.

Dean thinks I should write a letter or an email to complain since us hearing impaired people depend on subtitles. Although I have no idea whom I should complain to. Honestly, I'm just surprised they didn't have subtitles when the previous DVDs all have them, and this was the $30 two disc special edition.

Meh, just more annoying and disappointing than anything major, I guess.

Talked with Dad earlier and he suggested I go out with him tomorrow afternoon to visit my grandmother and to pick up a few grocery items. So ridiculous that I'm actually nervous and queasy with worry about going out. Definitely in a low period right now.

Movie Breakdown: Sandra Bullock Does Double Duty at Globes - Hey, 2 nominations for Sandy. Nice.

Closed captions.

Alone, Finally

Last night was a first. Ordered from Pizza Hut and I was told delivery would be an hour. The delivery guy was here in under 20 minutes.

Feel a tad lightheaded at the moment. Just had a violent 10 minute sneezing fit. Evidently my brain sought to escape my head.

Dean started back at work today. First day in... well... several weeks. Been awhile since I've had the apartment to myself. I can walk around naked again. Not that I ever have before.

Andy Richter Controls the Universe - Complete Series was released on DVD in March and I didn't know about it? For shame! This is a set I've been hoping for for some time now.

DiCaprio To Set Sail With Gibson On Viking Film - This sounds interesting. Although I'm a little disappointed that Gibson will only be directing.

Best of 2009: The Year in Bikinis (59 photos) - As unsanitary as it may be, I really do like how Britney Spears' body looks now. A nice amount of meat on her.

Amazon Eve. Me like.

Hard to believe it's been 8 days since I last posted. Guess I just haven't been that gung ho about posting my usual nothings. Instead, I've been watching DVDs. Mostly TV show ones.

Guess I've just been internet bored.

Finally had our first real snowfall earlier this week. Has been really windy and it's put a couple of inches of snow on the ground, which really isn't all that much.

Interestingly, we got a phone call last night from the landlord (which had me in a mild panic worrying about what was wrong). He called to tell us that every time it snows, guys would be by the next day at 1:00pm to ploy the back parking lot, and that all the cars would have to be moved by 12:30pm. No doubt this was because after it snowed a few days ago, the ploy guys came and did one minor diagonal sweep, and left (2 cars were in the back). I was also told that they'd be coming by today.

At 12:45pm this afternoon I woke Dean to see if she was going to move her car. Big shock, she didn't want to get up and said that it'd be fine and that they probably wouldn't be coming. Five minutes later the landlord was here aggressively buzzing repeatedly, seemingly each apartment, too get the 2 cars out back moved. He then left, and Dean went and moved her car to the road. The ploy was here immediately after.

I'm just surprised because this wasn't an issue at all last year. The ploy guys seemed to show up whenever they felt like it and plowed even with cars in the back. In fact, often the snow would be a foot high for a week or more before they ever showed up. Also, we're the only tenants who were here last winter. I'm just amazed it's suddenly such an issue. I dunno, maybe he hired new guys. Beats me. I hope he's not going to cold buzz all the apartments each time it snows the day before.

Went out with Dad yesterday to Walmart, my first time out of the apartment since early last week. So, about a week and change. I was actually dreading going out for days. It amazes me how from August through October I was going out multiple times a week, but now I'm constantly worried and frightful for days on end before leaving the apartment once every week or week and a half.

Agoraphobia for ya.

I mostly bought groceries, but did get 3 new DVDs. Picked up:
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2-disc special edition)
And got 2 new 4 feature Warner Bros DVDs, for $10 each:
Police Academy 1-4 Collection
         Police Academy (1984)
Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985)
Police Academy 3: Back in Training (1986)
Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987)
Batman Collection
         Batman (1989)
         Batman Returns (1992)
         Batman Forever (1995)
         Batman & Robin (1997)
Eight movies for $20 is a pretty good deal to me. Quality films.

The friggin' Potter 2-disc cost me $28.83. There was a bare bones single disc for only $17.83, but I didn't get it since I have the 2 disc DVDs for all five of the earlier films. I'm not so good at that money managing thing.

To make up for my lengthy absence, or make up for my return, here's Christina Hendricks:
